France- Day 8: Grocery Stores

Sorry, No pictures again today, we were home again for most of the day (most things are still closed due to the holiday yesterday).

We did go to the supermarket though! The really big supermarkets here are like a really crazy Walmart, they have everything. We had to get supplies for my upcoming baking adventures, as well as supplies for the dinner I am making tomorrow.

Some of the foods you can get are crazy though! Like there was a whole selection of delectable looking mousses and other desserts, and it was all so cheap! (So I bought some). They also have so much chocolate that is so delicious looking and reasonably priced that it makes me want to melt. Speaking of: Pathfinder group! I have a selection of chocolates and cookies that I have bought to share when I return- that is the souvenir you guys are getting ^.^ (It is gonna take a lot of self control for me not to just eat it!)

You can find a lot more fresh food in these stores than in America as well, but you can also find things like cartons of milk and cream that don't require refrigeration. That always baffles me. And there are a ton of really savory products and desserts and ingredients that are just so commonplace here, and really cheap, that are extremely hard to find in America. It is crazy how different the cultures are (I may like living in America, but visiting France always has its perks. Delicious perks.) Good food and savory things are just so normal here. Like in the meat section, there is a reference book to look at that recommends different types of wines for different meals and ingredients, because that is just what people do! Everything is the best quality and so well put together, it is stunning.

Anyways, I bought mousse, chocolate, cookies, and then I bought a tiny (delicious!) baguette to eat in the car on the way home.

It was nice because it was just my mom, my aunt, and I who went, so we were able to go slowly and look at everything, whereas if we go with my grandparents it is always really rushed.

When we got back I mostly just napped for awhile because I was feeling very tired again. then I got up and continued reading A Game of Thrones. It really snuck up on me because the beginning was so slow, but now I am absolutely and thoroughly hooked! I can't stop reading it! Also, I was telling my mom about part of it, and I got to learn that my grandfather thinks that fantasy is only for children. I think I would be a bit shocked to find a child reading this book though!

Anyways, for dinner my Aunt made us tacos, which was pretty good, and we had extremely tasty watermelon for dessert. After that we all just sat and talked, and I started reading again (this was when I learned about my grandfather's distaste for fantasy. I am not going to let it bother me though, I just think he is missing out on some brilliant literature!)

Also, today I learned what room I will be in at Carleton, so that is exciting. I won't find out who my roommate is until tomorrow though unfortunately. The Facebook group for my class has been really awesome about communicating though, and My RAs for my dorm floor have already contacted me about a Facebook group for the people on my floor! I can't wait to find out who my roommate is. :)

Well, I am going to get back to my reading! Goodnight all!

(Also, friends,  feel free to contact me :) I've been talking to Luke which is nice, but I would love to chat with all of you! I miss you guys!)
