There was a time when those rocks were mountains, and we, we were giants. It didn't matter that our bodies were small, because our minds were huge. No box could contain us, no room, no town. We knew that we were important. We could achieve anything!
But then something terrible happened. The great catastrophe that struck each and everyone of us.
We grew up.
We realized that our mountains were just rocks. In that dizzying realization, the contrast from what we had always felt made it seem as if we had only conquered pebbles. True mountains rose up in front of us, and we feared that we could not reach the top. We were tiny.
Suddenly we were a spot in a massive world, not even the pinhead on the map. Suddenly we conformed to the boundaries that couldn't contain us before. We were unimportant all along, here and then gone, never really doing anything.
Somehow in growing, we shrank.
But we are wrong. Each and every one of us is important. That mountain in front of us has handholds and footholds, and our arms our longer now, they will be easier to reach! With some effort, hard work, and a little bit of sweat we can reach our goals. We can climb our mountains and make a difference. And when we are standing on top of that mountain something will change.
We will be triumphant.
We will be important.
Something that we tucked away in our hearts a long time ago will unfold it's paper wings and take to the sky, and we will watch it go with a smile.
In that moment, we will be giants.
